You’ve probably already seen this but I thought it warranted a full post:
A full version of this can be found here.
Tonight is a huge game for Cincinnati. It’s the first sellout of the season as the Bearcats host the top team in the Big East the Syracuse Orange. Although this contest has lost some of its luster since Cuse is no longer the #1 team in the land, there’s still a lot on the line for the Cats. In preparation the University of Cincinnati has released the above ‘fan guide’ to help you understand the do’s and don’ts if you’re going to the game. It sounds a little small timey because, if there’s one fanbase that knows what to do during basketball games, it’s Cincinnati’s. I mean, remember to wear white for the whiteout tonight? Uhh, yea, we got it. We did EXIST before the turn of the 21st century and, in fact, we thrived. Bearcat fans definitely have (or at least should have) a ‘been-there-before’ attitude but the administration apparently thought it was a good idea to give you a little refresher.
Included in the guide are recommendations to stand, not sit, during the game and be as loud as possible to create a deafening 6th man effect, except when UC has the ball, of course. Actually, in the university’s defense, this reminder seems to be most relevant to some fans who don’t understand when to shut-the-hell up to let the Bearcats run their offense. The guide also features some oh-so-cute stick figures to show you the proper way to form ‘three-point goggles’ with your hands because none of us have participated in, you know, the 3rd grade.
And finally, I got quite a kick out of the figures showing you how to stay quiet until the Bearcats score and follow it up with some Cupid Shuffling:
This is undoubtedly the work off UC’s newish AD Whit Babcock and a glimpse into his mind. As cheesy as it is, Whit is clearly doing just about everything to build excitement among UC fans and for UC athletics in general. This is something we would have never seen in the Mike Thomas administration. I’m poking fun at the guide but I truly do think it was a great, out-of-the-box idea that sent a message in a fun way.
Cheers, Whit Babcock and the UC Marketing Department. I love what guys are doing down there.
